Pharmacy Technology Program Overview

The Weatherford College Pharmacy Technology program of study is designed to provide quality instruction to students through exposure to highly qualified faculty consisting of experienced pharmacists and other allied health professionals. Upon completion of the certificate segment of the curriculum students may obtain national certification by successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) examination. The Pharmacy Technology curriculum is based on the Model Curriculum for Pharmacy Technician Training of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In 2000, the Pharmacy Technology Program was awarded full accreditation by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists.

ADMISSION TO PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

Admission to Weatherford College does not guarantee select admission to the various Pharmacy Technology programs. Students are admitted on the basis of admission to the college, reading and math levels, prior educational achievements and health status. Students admitted to the entry-level Pharmacy Technician (Basic) Certificate Program must pass a criminal background check, be enrolled in the Texas State Board of Pharmacy trainee registry,have a negative drug screen, provide proof of certain immunizations, provide/demonstrate proof of computer/key boarding. Successful program completion requires students to demonstrate certain basic skills/functional capabilities. Only certified Pharmacy Technicians may be admitted to the Clinical Pharmacy Technician (Advanced) Program and the AAS degree program. Proficiency in spoken English is a requirement for admission. Applicants whose native language is not English must pass one of the following tests: TOEFL iBT or MELAB Speaking Test. Contact the Pharmacy Technology Program for additional information.
