DESCRIPTION

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus is part of an academic health center that also provides programs in dentistry, medicine, nursing and public health. A large university teaching hospital complex provides facilities for clinical instruction and research for all of the health science units at Michigan.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Students are admitted to the Pharm.D. program after completing at least 60 semester hours of preprofessional study in a nonpharmacy college. At least one year of prepharmacy study must be completed at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university.

Application to the doctor of pharmacy program is made through the College of Pharmacy, 428 Church Street, The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109.
  • Admission is based on evidence submitted attesting to the applicant's ability to successfully complete the program requirements. This evidence includes copies of academic records from all institutions of higher education attended and a personal statement describing the applicant's career objectives and reasons for applying to the doctor of pharmacy program.
  • The Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) is required of all applicants. Two letters of recommendation, one from an employer, are also required. All speakers of English as a second language must also demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  • Minimum TOEFL/TSE and MELAB/Oral Exam score requirements are available from the College. If, in the judgment of the College of Pharmacy Admissions Committee, additional information is required in order to assess an applicant's qualifications, the committee may request a personal interview.
  • Although great emphasis is given to the applicant's overall college GPA and to grades earned in mathematics and the physical and biological sciences, the required personal statement and health care experience are also carefully considered by the committee.
  • Applicants from other U.S. colleges of pharmacy, including those who have earned a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy, are considered for admission at advanced levels of the Pharm.D. program.
  • Decisions about advanced placement admissions are made by the Admissions Committee on a spaceavailable basis.
