DESCRIPTION
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus is part of an academic health center that also provides programs in dentistry, medicine, nursing and public health. A large university teaching hospital complex provides facilities for clinical instruction and research for all of the health science units at Michigan.
- The College traces its background to 1868 when pharmacy was first taught in the department of literature, science and the arts.
- A school of pharmacy was established 1876 with the distinction of being the first such unit within a state university. The title of the School was later changed to the College of Pharmacy.
- Total enrollment is about 300 students (both graduate and professional). Approximately 65 students are admitted to the Doctor of Pharmacy program each year. Thus, students enjoy a small-college atmosphere, while having access to the social life and facilities of a large university.
- Numerous support services are available including academic counseling, personal counseling, tutoring, reading- and learning-skills development, minority student services, disabled student services and career planning.
- Students are housed in residence halls, fraternities and sororities, private dwellings and cooperatives. Information concerning student housing may be obtained from the Housing Information Office, 1011 S.A.B., the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1316.
