DESCRIPTION
The South University School of Pharmacy offers a three year Doctor of Pharmacy Program. This innovative program requires 36 months of full-time attendance for the completion of the 12 academic quarters of study. The School's mission is to serve the public's health care needs by preparing pharmacists to administer superior pharmaceutical care to improve health outcomes for patients. The School provides a learning community that facilitates critical thinking, problem-solving skills and scholarship, using state-of-the-art technology. This atmosphere promotes active student-centered learning that fosters the initiative necessary for continuing lifelong professional development. Although the School prepares pharmacists for all areas of practice, special emphasis is placed on the community/primary care environment in which the majority of health care services will be provided in the future. The School embraces the precepts of pharmaceutical care as the foundation of its educational program. The School's professional program provides educational preparedness that will enable its graduates to collaborate with other health professionals and to share in responsibility for the outcomes of drug and related therapy. The knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes, and values necessary for the provision of pharmaceutical care for the general practice of pharmacy in any setting are basic components of the School's educational program. South University is a private academic institution with campuses in Savannah, Ga., Columbia, S.C., West Palm Beach, Fla., and Montgomery, Ala. The School of Pharmacy is located on the institution's flagship campus in Savannah, Ga. In the July of 2004 the Pharmacy School occupied a 40,000 ft2 state-of-the-art facility constructed expressly for the School of Pharmacy. This building is equipped with the technological capabilities necessary to ensure that our students are adequately prepared for our progressive, electronically integrated curriculum delivery. There are no on-campus housing facilities but numerous apartment complexes are located in the vicinity of the School's campus. The University is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for the intellectual, social, and professional development of a diverse student population. The School encourages students to develop interests and professional activities that complement their academic pursuits, facilitate development of leadership, and provide appropriate social interaction.ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Students are accepted into the South University School of Pharmacy yearly in the Fall quarter that begins in August. Student selection follows a dual-deadline process that offers candidates the opportunity to qualify for Early Admission (application deadline, September 1st) or for General Admission (application deadline December
1). To be considered for admission, a prospective student must do the following:
1. Complete, or be in the process of completing, 63 semester hours (or the quarter hour equivalent) of prerequisite course work from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. The student must earn a grade of C or better in each prerequisite course. South University does not offer these pre-pharmacy courses. The following list of pre-pharmacy course work must be completed prior to matriculation to South University School of Pharmacy. Sem. hrs
2. Earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale. (A minimum science GPA of 3.00 is recommended. For students accepted into the most recent class the average cumulative GPA was 3.4 and the average science GPA was 3.3.)
