DESCRIPTION
Loma Linda University (LLU) was founded in 1905 and is the flagship health sciences university of the world-wide educational system of the Seventh-day Adventist church.
- In 2002, the School of Pharmacy enrolled its first 34 students as the inaugural "Class of 2006". Subsequent classes have enrolled 44 and 55 student and will increase to a maximum of 65 students per class for each of the 4 years of the program.

- The educational and research programs based in the University operate from ten major educational buildings and many supporting structures with over 3.4 million square feet of classrooms and laboratories.
- The 900 bed LLU Medical Center and Children's Hospital is a focal point of the campus and serves as the major training ground for clinical practice, research, and service.
The Mission of the LLU School of Pharmacy is to continue the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ by:
- Educating competent caring pharmacists who will serve as integral members of the health care team.
- Expanding through research the development of therapeutic regimes that will advance the knowledge and technology available for the treatment of disease;
- and Providing high quality pharmaceutical care to all those within the global sphere of influence of LLU.
The School of Pharmacy is committed to the education of pharmacists of the highest ethical and professional standards to deliver competent and compassionate pharmaceutical care. A diverse and dynamic educational environment produces students who are practitioners, health professionals, and providers of humanitarian service to a global community. Graduates will be dedicated to life-long learning, developing new knowledge, advancing standards of practice, and integrating physical, mental, social and spiritual dimensions of health.
CURRICULUM
The School of Pharmacy offers a 4-year course of study leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
- Entry into this program is highly competitive and requires completion of at least 2 years of pre-pharmacy studies. Preference is given to students who already hold a bachelor's degree in the sciences.
- The four-year curriculum emphasizes studies in basic and biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, social and administrative sciences as well as the pharmacy practice areas of therapeutics, drug information, pharmaceutical care, and experiential education.
- In addition, courses from the University's Faculty of Religion serve to enhance the spiritual growth of students. Experiential education is fully integrated into all four years of the Pharm.D. Program.
- The LLU Medical Center and its wide range of medical specialties serves as the primary site for experiential programs, however a large number of other institutional and out-patient / ambulatory sites are also used to insure that students have access to a wide scope of professional experiential opportunities.
- Classroom studies are only a part of what it takes to mold a future pharmacist. Ample opportunities are in place for students to experience the real world of pharmacy and hone their sense of professionalism and service. On a global scale - as well as in our own backyard - there are opportunities for students and faculty to participate in outreach and service programs with populations underserved by the health care system.
