DESCRIPTION

The College of Pharmacy, an agent of the State of Idaho, is a nationally-recognized, state-wide program for the education of pharmacy practitioners in the delivery of pharmaceutical care.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

The prepharmacy curriculum for resident and transfer students must include the general education requirements as described for an ISU bachelor of science degree and at least the following:
  1. two semesters of general chemistry,
  2. two semesters of organic chemistry,
  3. two semesters of anatomy and
  4. physiology (or one semester of anatomy and one semester of cell biology),
  5. one semester of physics,
  6. one semester of biology or zoology,
  7. one semester of microbiology,
  8. one semester of calculus,
  9. and one semester of economics.
Applicants are required to complete a minimum of 60 hours of actual pharmacy experience prior to applying for admissions to the Doctor of Pharmacy program. Pharmacy experience can be gained through shadowing, volunteering or working in a paid position within a pharmacy. Hours must be documented and verified by a supervising pharmacist. Admission to the Pharm.D. program is competitive; the minimum grade point average in all previous college courses must be 2.5 or above. Fulfillment of the specific requirements does not ensure admission to the college.
  • Doctor of pharmacy students wishing to transfer from another college of pharmacy must present the following materials to the Office of the Associate Dean of the college of Pharmacy:
  • A letter certifying good standing by the dean of the college of pharmacy previously attended.
  • All official transcript(s) showing that the prepharmacy requirements of Idaho State University have been completed,
  • A letter to the associate dean requesting evaluation of class standing.
  • Students applying to the nontraditional Pharm.D. program must hold a valid pharmacy license in one of the states or territories of the U.S. or a valid pharmacy license in one of the provinces or territories of Canada.
  • There is no minimum cumulative GPA required for the program. Students are encouraged to apply regardless of present residence, but admission priority will be given to individuals who practice in Idaho.
