What is Non-Traditional Pharm.D. program
Pharm.D. programs for current pharmacy registered practitioners in the United States and Canada who have receiveda Bachelor's of Pharmacy from an ACPE accredited college. Non-Traditional Pharm.D. program is designed primarily for B.S. of pharmacy graduates (practicing pharmacists) who wish to return to school to earn a Pharm.D. degree so they may enhance their skills.Because these programs are offered to practitioner students outside the traditional pharmaceutical education realm, they are called nontraditional Pharm.D. program.This program provides the opportunity for practicing pharmacists at the baccalaureate level to obtain the PharmD degree to enhance their ability to provide high quality pharmaceutical care.
Is it required or necessary
The role of pharmacist is shifting to clinical drug therapies, both in-patient and community setting. Thus, the future of pharmacists' success lies in their abilities to manage their patients' drug therapies. They must have the knowledge and skills to do so. Modern technological advances have develop complex drug therapies, and could be overwhelming information for those practitioners with baccalaureate level of pharmacy. Continuous educational hours for current practicing pharmacist are not equivalent to nontraditional PharmD program.Pharmacists who earn the advanced degree will be prepared to provide up-to-date, collaborative and clinically sound pharmaceutical care, therapeutics management, and drug therapy monitoring.

The Future of non traditional PharmD program
Since all pharmacy schools in united States offered Pharm.D. as entry level pharmacy degree, practicing pharmacist with baccurreate degrees are phasing out in accord with these non traditional pharmd programs. Many of nontraditional pharmd programs are not enrolling new students.
