Navy E Ribbon
Eligibility Requirements
T
he Navy E Ribbon is awarded in the name of
the Secretary of Navy to any permanent duty on ships or in squadron of the Navy
that won Battle Efficiency competitions subsequent to 1 July 1974. The Battle
Efficiency Award recognizes sustained superior performance in an operational
environment. Eligibility for this award demands day-to-day demonstrated
excellence in addition to superior achievement during certifications and
qualifications conducted throughout the competitive period.
- Navy personnel permanently attached to and serving with cited
ships and units during the competitive cycle for which the award was given,
or any part thereof, are entitled
- Marine Corps personnel serving as part of the ship's Marine detachment
or otherwise designated as "ship's company" are eligible. Personnel assigned
to embarked Marine Corps units are not eligible for the award; e.g.,
aircraft squadrons, Battalion Landing Teams, Regimental Landing Teams,
Marine Expeditionary Units, etc.
- All Selected Reserve personnel permanently attached to and serving with
the mobilization augmentation Navy Reserve unit(s) during the competitive
cycle for which the award was given, or any part thereof, are entitled to
the award provided the individuals concerned performed active duty for
training aboard the unit during that competitive cycle.
- Reservists performing active duty for training aboard units awarded the
"E" who are not members of the dedicated Reserve unit(s), and Reservists
who were members of the dedicated Reserve unit(s), but who did not perform
active duty for training aboard, are not eligible for the award.
- Transients and temporary duty personnel are not eligible for this
award
- Embarked personnel, staffs, squadrons, or detachments are also not
eligible.
- Civilian personnel are not eligible for the Navy "E" ribbon.

The ribbon bar with one "E" (3/16 inch) device is worn for the first award.
An additional "E" is worn for second and third awards. One wreathed "E" is
worn to denote four or more awards.
