Texas Tech University – Online Pharmacy & Pharmacy Technician Degrees

DESCRIPTION

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Pharmacy is an instrument of the State for the preparation of pharmacists with the knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care. The primary mission of Texas Tech is the education and training of entrylevel practitioners; the continued development of practicing professionals through a comprehensive continuing education program; and the training of advanced practitioners through general clinical and specialty postdoctoral residencies/ fellowships, and graduate certificate programs. TTUHSC School of Pharmacy accepts approximately 88 full-time students into the professional program each year.

  • The school now enrolls more than 350 students in professional and postgraduate programs.
  • All students in the Pharm.D. program are located in Amarillo for the first two years of the four-year program.
  • During the third and fourth years, some students remain in Amarillo while others are deployed to Lubbock and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
  • The pharmacy building houses five “smart” classrooms equipped with instructor-controlled computer/media stations and network ports for each student, a drug information center outfitted with reference material and computer workstations, and a lecture hall with fixed seating available for 245.
  • All instructional classrooms have two-way television instruction capabilities. Conference rooms support problem-based educational experiences. There is one instructional laboratory with facilities to teach dispensing, counseling and compounding skills. The School of Pharmacy building is located within the Harrington Regional Medical Center complex.
  • The Harrington Regional Medical Center is a 41-acre campus made up of a group of hospitals and associated health care facilities. The School of Pharmacy is located in a 102,000 sq. ft. building on the Amarillo campus. The pharmacy building is located directly across Coulter Drive from Northwest Texas Hospital.
  • The campus presently contains the Texas Tech Clinic. A new School of Medicine and School of Allied Health building has recently been completed. A library of the Health Sciences is planned.
  • The School of Pharmacy does not furnish living quarters for its students. Each student is responsible for making those arrangements. Most students live in apartments or houses in the community.

CURRICULUM

The TTUHSC School of Pharmacy offers the doctor of pharmacy as its single professional degree. It is offered in a four year traditional program.

  • Doctoral candidates are admitted once each year for enrollment in the fall semester.
  • Studies must be on a full-time basis and due to having a large number of clinical rotations and an integrated curriculum involving disease states and seventeen pharmacotherapy courses, transfer students from other schools of pharmacy are not accepted.
