DESCRIPTION

Midwestern University is a private university that specializes in the health sciences with five colleges, of which two are colleges of pharmacy: the Chicago College of Pharmacy (CCP) and the College of Pharmacy-Glendale. Midwestern University was founded in 1900 as the American College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery by J. Martin Littlejohn, Ph.D., D.O., M.D.

  • The North Central Association of Colleges and Universities accredits the Chicago College of Pharmacy. The Illinois campus is located on a 105-acre site in Downers Grove, a western suburb of Chicago, and is home to over 1,600 full-time students.
  • At CCP, students complement their classroom activities by engaging in a variety of professional, social and recreational activities.
  • Pharmacy-related student organizations, as well as inter/intramural athletic groups, sponsor these activities.
  • The College offers students the opportunity to live on campus in residence halls or apartment housing. The residence hall units feature spacious single or double-occupancy rooms with adjoining bathroom facilities. All housing areas include optional board plans.
  • The mission of Midwestern University College of Pharmacy–Glendale (MWU-CPG) is to educate students to be highly competent, caring, and ethical pharmacists. Our dynamic curriculum will develop our graduates to be critical thinkers and life-long learners who can successfully practice in a changing healthcare environment. These pharmacists will contribute to the health of patients, the well being of society and the advancement of the profession of pharmacy.


CURRICULUM

At CCP, students pursue an entry level Pharm.D. degree program, which is comprised of two years of prepharmacy study and four years of professional study.

  • Prepharmacy study must be completed at an accredited college or university prior to admission to CCP.
  • CCP offers a Dual Acceptance Program for selected students accepted to Loyola University, Chicago College of Arts and Sciences, Benedictine University, Millikin University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Dominican University, Lewis University, and University of Saint Francis (Fort Wayne, Indiana).
  • Eligible students must
    1. rank in the top quartile of their high school graduating class,
    2. must score in the top quartile on the ACT or SAT exam,
    3. and be accepted by the CCP Admission Committee.
  • Successful applicants will be insured a seat at CCP upon successful completion of the prepharmacy requirements, provided that the student achieves a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and earns a grade of “C” or higher in all required coursework.
  • CCP also offers a Pharm.D. Completion Program, which allows a recent pharmacist graduate with a B.S. in Pharmacy degree from another ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy opportunity to earn a Pharm.D. degree from CCP after four full-time quarters of study.
  • In addition, CCP offers a Nontraditional Pharm.D. degree program for licensed pharmacists in the U.S. who wish to study on a part-time, self-instructional basis.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

The Pharm.D. program at CCP is rigorous and challenging. CCP considers for admission applicants who possess the academic and professional promise necessary to become outstanding members of the pharmacy profession. To qualify for admission to the entry level Pharm.D. program, students must possess and/or submit the following:
  1. Complete 62 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of nonremedial, prerequisite coursework from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or recognized post secondary Canadian institution that uses English as its primary language of instruction and documentation. The student must earn a grade of C or better in each prerequisite course.
