CURRICULUM

The Pharm.D curriculum offers a professional course of study over four years that focuses on the following areas of concern:

  1. demographics and epidemiological changes including increasing age of the population, complexity of drugs, diversity of delivery systems for services, and demand for drug information;
  2. drug-related illness whereby pharmacists work as partners on a treatment team in institutional acute-care and nonresidential settings;
  3. medical technology with the development of drugs and the knowledge explosion on use and abuse of drugs;
  4. pharmaceutical care with comprehensive drug therapy and use processes;
  5. clinical pharmacy expanded beyond acute care facilities, long-term care and other outpatient concerns.

The curriculum is unique in that it is delivered in blocks rather than semesters or quarters. In the block system, students focus on one subject at a time and attain a level of competence in that subject before moving on to the next. Each block is approximately 18 days in length and is followed by a 3-4 day break. There are 10 blocks in an academic year.
