Washington State University - Online Pharmacy & Pharmacy Technician Degrees

DESCRIPTION

Washington State University has everything necessary for students to receive a full university experience. The first two years of the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program are located on the university’s main campus in Pullman, which is a residential campus.

  • The Pullman campus is rich with educational and social activities. It has excellent libraries, museums, and classrooms. It ranks near the top in the nation for being “wired” or having the latest technology. It boasts a 160,000-square-foot student recreation center, complete with 17,000-square-foot weight training and cardio center, indoor running track, lap and leisure swimming pools, play courts for basketball, volleyball, roller hockey, raquetball and soccer, personal trainers, health and wellness services, lounge areas with games and a snack bar.
  • The campus also has a performing arts coliseum, a nine-hole golf course, 16 all-weather tennis courts, comfortable study areas, a student health center and a hospital on site. Films, concerts, dramatic presentations and PAC 10 athletics are regular features of the academic year at WSU. A number of different student clubs and organizations are active on campus.
  • Life for pharmacy students centers around WSU and the College of Pharmacy. Each year a new group of approximately 94 students enters the college and for the next three years, the students attend all the same classes and many of the same college social and educational functions.
  • In Wegner Hall the students have their classes, visit faculty in their offices, and have available to them a student lounge, student office and student computer lab. The building also is the home of the college’s Office of Student Services and the Dean’s Office.
  • Students have the opportunity from their first day of school to join any of several pharmacy student organizations. The students spend their last two years of the program mostly in Spokane, Wash., which is 75 miles from Pullman and where the university atmosphere is more urban. In their third year, the students attend classes at the university’s health sciences building in Spokane and in their fourth year, the students do a series of six-week rotations working alongside faculty members at various clerkship sites in Spokane and other locations in Washington State or internationally.
  • The entire college is small enough, with about 375 students attending each year, to permit students and faculty to get to know each other personally. Faculty are nationally known for their work in many areas, including diabetes, pharmacy economics, cancer research, new drug information, and innovative teaching methods.
  • Students have the opportunity to attend national conventions and conferences and to conduct research. Pharmacy alumni are actively involved with the college and available to mentor students.

CURRICULUM

The College of Pharmacy offers a course of study leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. The Pharm.D. schedule of studies involves a six-year commitment, consisting of at least two pre-pharmacy years, and four professional years.

  • The fourth year of the curriculum consists of 42 weeks of advanced practice experiences, which are located primarily in either Spokane or Yakima, with elective opportunities throughout the United States and in several international locations.
  • Students will gain experience in a variety of health care environments, including community, institutional, and long-term care settings. Approximately 94 students are enrolled annually in the first professional year of the Pharm.D. program.
