DESCRIPTION
The University of North Carolina is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, one of the best college towns in America. Chapel Hill has a historic district, museum, library, theaters, parks, malls and many recreational facilities. Among UNC's plus factors: strong academics, high quality facilities, a beautiful campus, a moderate climate and nationally ranked sports teams.- The School of Pharmacy is located in a health sciences center along with the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Public Health.
- Pharmacy faculty and students have direct access to UNC Hospitals and Clinics, several global pharmaceutical companies, leading clinical research organizations, the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) system and state and federal government agencies.
- The Health Sciences Library is a modern, well-equipped facility providing both campus-based and electronic resources. The new Kerr Hall annex has more than doubled the teaching and research space and provides for state-of-the-art technology to support these programs.
- The mission of the University is to serve as a center for scholarship and creative endeavor. To complement this, the School has adopted a bimodal mission to achieve excellence in both sponsored research and the creation of innovative pharmaceutical care practices. In cooperation with the NC Board of Pharmacy, the School supports progressive pharmacy practice by preparing pharmacists with the skills to become Clinical Pharmacist Practitioners as defined by the state's Pharmacy Practice Act.
- Hallmark programs in the School are the Pharmaceutical Care Laboratory, a five-course series is designed to integrated and apply content across the curriculum and the Enhanced Pharmaceutical Care Center (EPCC), a collaborative arrangement between the School of Pharmacy and Kerr Drug Company, a regional pharmacy chain. UNC pharmacy students are extremely active in the community, providing staff support for weekly indigent care clinics, health fairs, brown bag medication reviews and a variety of health screenings.
- Students are encouraged to attend state, regional and national meetings of professional pharmacy organizations. Faculty-student interaction is valued with annual events such as the Student-Faculty Photo Scavenger Hunt and the Student-Faculty Auction designed to foster mentoring relationships.
- The School's Honors Program provides the opportunity for students to develop research skills while working under the tutelage of a faculty mentor.
