DESCRIPTION

The University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy is a state operated institution and the only college of pharmacy in the state of New Mexico.

CURRICULUM

The College of Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico offers a professional program leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
  • This program consists of two years (65 credits) of pre-requisite course work, followed by four years of professional training. The Pharm.D. program emphasizes student-centered, problem-based learning, and requires nine clerkships during the fourth year, including ambulatory care, community based, and institutional settings.
  • The Pharm.D. is the only entry level degree offered by the College of Pharmacy. A nontraditional Pharm.D. program is available for postbaccalaureate pharmacists to provide an avenue for the practicing pharmacist to obtain a Pharm.D. degree.
  • Training requirements were developed considering the knowledge, skills and ability that the practicing pharmacist has acquired.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

The College of Pharmacy admits students for the fall semester only. All qualified students entering the University of New Mexico are first admitted to the University College and after completing admission requirements may apply for transfer to the College of Pharmacy.
  • Transfer students who will complete admission requirements prior to the session for which application is made must apply to the University of New Mexico through the Office of Admission, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87131.
  • The College of Pharmacy has joined a coalition of colleges of pharmacy around the country utilizing Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS).
  • Applicants must complete and submit a PharmCAS application by February 1 (September 1 for Early Decision).
  • Applicants are also required to submit a supplemental application for the College of Pharmacy.
  • To be considered, applicants must present evidence of having successfully completed the following minimum admission requirements:
    1. A grade-point average on required courses of at least 2.2;
    2. Completion of all pre-pharmacy courses consisting of at least 65 credit hours, including:

      *Acceptable electives: English writing, speech communication, linguistics, journalism, literature, history, philosophy, anthropology, psychology, sociology, economics, geography, political science, foreign language, courses in the history, appreciation and criticism of art, music, theater and dance. The University of New Mexico participates in the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).
