DESCRIPTION

The establishment of The University of Louisiana at Monroe as Louisiana's only state-supported center for pharmaceutical education was authorized by the State Board of Education on August 11, 1956.

CURRICULUM

The six-year curriculum leading to the doctor of pharmacy degree consists of a two-year pre-professional program and a four-year professional program embodying modern concepts of clinical education and pharmacy practice.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Applicants for admission to the professional program in the School of Pharmacy, in addition to meeting the requirements for admission to the University, must have completed the required courses of the pre-pharmacy curriculum with no grade less than "C" and possess a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.75 (based on a 4.0 system) in all previous coursework undertaken, exclusive of developmental courses, whether passed or failed at all institutions of attendance.
  • Other criteria including standardized testing, essay writing and an on-campus interview with assessment of oral and written communication skills may be required and utilized in evaluating applicants.
  • Transfer students should have transcripts sent to the University Admissions Office at the time application is made. Applicants transferring from another school of pharmacy must have the dean of that school supply a letter of good academic standing and certification that the student is eligible to progress.
  • Admissions are determined annually based upon the availability of the instructional resources available to the program. Preference for admission is extended to Louisiana residents.
  • Completion of the pre-pharmacy curriculum does not guarantee admission to the professional program of the School of Pharmacy.
  • Selection of students is based upon objective academic qualifications and an invited admissions interview.

In addition, the applicant must have completed the University of Louisiana at Monroe core curriculum requirements. Coursework completed more than seven years prior to an applicant's requested effective admission date cannot be used to satisfy pre-pharmacy requirements.
