DESCRIPTION

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences includes the Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Health Related Professions, a graduate school, university hospital and clinics, and the Arkansas Cancer Research Center.

CURRICULUM

The requirements of the prepharmacy coursework may be fulfilled at any accredited collegiate institution.
  • The professional education leading to the doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree is taken at the Medical Sciences campus in Little Rock. Thus the student has the experiences and advantages of university or college campus life, yet completes his or her education in a health science center which will characterize much of his/her later professional career.
  • The professional curriculum is designed to integrate actual practice with academic skills under faculty direction.
  • Experiential education in community and hospital pharmacies is required in the senior year as well as rotations like pediatrics, geriatrics, ambulatory care, drug information and elective rotations.
  • This experiential component of the curriculum gives the student a thorough understanding of the patient and disease states, and an opportunity to work closely with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
