DESCRIPTION
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences includes the Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Health Related Professions, a graduate school, university hospital and clinics, and the Arkansas Cancer Research Center.- The College of Pharmacy is located in a modern nine-level educational building, which houses the medical sciences library, lecture rooms, computer learning center, multi-disciplinary student laboratories, research laboratories and offices.
- Through the multiple facilities of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the student in the College of Pharmacy enjoys enviable advantages for broadening his/her understanding of the profession of pharmacy and its relationship to other health care professions and the maintenance of public health.
- Students are encouraged to participate in campus activities and fraternities and other organizations that are available for interested students.
- On-campus housing is available with dormitory-type rooms for single students and a limited number of apartments for married students.
CURRICULUM
The requirements of the prepharmacy coursework may be fulfilled at any accredited collegiate institution.
- The professional education leading to the doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree is taken at the Medical Sciences campus in Little Rock. Thus the student has the experiences and advantages of university or college campus life, yet completes his or her education in a health science center which will characterize much of his/her later professional career.
- The professional curriculum is designed to integrate actual practice with academic skills under faculty direction.
- Experiential education in community and hospital pharmacies is required in the senior year as well as rotations like pediatrics, geriatrics, ambulatory care, drug information and elective rotations.
- This experiential component of the curriculum gives the student a thorough understanding of the patient and disease states, and an opportunity to work closely with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
All applicants with a grade-point average of 2.00 (C) or above on their over-all college record are eligible to apply for admission to the College of Pharmacy.
A minimum grade of "C" is required in all prepharmacy courses.
- The final selection of each class will be made by the College of Pharmacy on the basis of the applicant's previous scholastic and aptitude records, Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) scores, interview and references.
- The PCAT is required of all applicants.
- The student's admission to the College of Pharmacy will be considered after the successful completion of the equivalent of two years of prescribed preprofessional work at an accredited collegiate institution.

- Students presenting transcripts of credits from other accredited colleges of pharmacy will, under certain circumstances, receive credit for courses satisfactorily completed in the basic sciences and in other general educational subjects applicable to the pharmacy curriculum.
- The sequence of professional courses extending throughout a minimum of three academic years or six semesters of residence in the accredited school of pharmacy must be completed in the logical order required of all regular students.
- Students transferring from other schools of pharmacy must have the permission of the dean of the college of pharmacy previously attended.
- Transfer students from all institutions are required to present a minimum grade average of "C" or its equivalent, both on their most recent semester of work and on the total to be considered for admission to the College of Pharmacy.
