DESCRIPTION

Thomas Jefferson University, an academic health center, was founded as Jefferson Medical College in 1824. Thomas Jefferson University is dedicated to health sciences education and research and is composed of three colleges:College of Health Professions JCHP students live and learn in Philadelphia's dynamic urban environment. The campus is in the historic heart of Center City, home to museums, clubs, restaurants, shopping, and an everchanging list of events-from concerts, to theater, exhibitions, and more.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum is designed to help students effectively collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure that all patients receive safe and effective drug therapy and to understand how pharmacists can influence the health care system and positively impact public healthIt encourages collaborative learning among its own students as well as interaction with students enrolled in other disciplines at Thomas Jefferson University, including nursing, medicine, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. In developing students into professionals and creating the foundation for their life-long learning, the didactic component of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum includes active learning techniques, simulated patient care environments, online learning, and problem-based learning.Experiential Learning is a key component of the Jefferson School of Pharmacy curriculum. Students have Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) every semester during the first 3 years of the program (IPPE I-VI). During the final year, students participate in 6 full-time clinical experiences, approximately 40 hours a week, in a variety of pharmacy settings (APPE I-VI as defined on page 11). Four of these experiences must be completed in the required fields of Community Pharmacy, Hospital/Health System Pharmacy, Ambulatory Care, and Inpatient/Acute Care. The remaining two APPEs are elective experiences which students can choose according to their interests.

Admission to the College is on a rolling basis. All application materials must be received by PharmCAS and the Jefferson Supplemental Online Application must be completed prior to March 3. Preference is given to complete applications that meet the deadline; however, we will accept applications as long as space is available. JCHP will begin notifying applicants of admission decisions after January 20. Admission to the Pharmacy program is only available for the Fall semester. You need not complete all prerequisites before you apply, but they must be completed before you enter the program. You may also earn credits through standardized tests, including CLEP. Admission is competitive, as there are a limited number of seats in each class.
