DESCRIPTION
Temple University School of Pharmacy was founded in 1901 and is located in a Health Science Center which also houses the Schools of Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine and Temple University Hospital.- This is an ideal location to foster the educational, patient care and research missions of the college. The academic program prepares graduates to deliver evidenced-based and ethical pharmaceutical care to patients in a variety of practice settings.
- Students have the opportunity to work with faculty who are committed to teaching, research and patient care.
- The School has taken advantage of it's geographical location in the epicenter of the US pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry to develop relationships that enhance the educational experience of the students.
- Students at the School of Pharmacy have the advantage of a well-rounded activity program through the Office of Leisure Programs (OLP) in the Faculty Student Activity Building. The OLP provides educational, recreational, and auxiliary services.
- The Faculty Student Activity building has a cafeteria, coffee shop, bookstore and gymnasium. In addition students have access to the educational and recreational facilities on Main Campus located four miles from the Health Sciences Center.
- Pharmacy students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional and social organizations encouraging the development of leadership skills and a bond with the profession. While students benefit from attending a large University, the School's Office of Student Services facilitates course registration, billing, handling of transcripts, and provides personal support.
- Pharmacy students may reside in facilities managed by university housing located on Main Campus. Individuals can choose from a wide variety of meal options. Each complex provides 24-hour controlled-access security.
CURRICULUM
The innovative Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum prepares students for a broad array of careers in pharmacy.- Students are admitted to the Pharm.D. program after completing a minimum of 60 semester hours (e.g., 2 years) of preprofessional collegiate study at an accredited community college or college/ university. Subsequent to admission, pharmacy students must satisfactorily complete four years of professional study.
- Pharmacy core courses include the
- basic pharmaceutical sciences (i.e., anatomy/physiology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, biopharmaceutics),
- followed by courses in clinical pharmacy practice (i.e., pathophysiology/ therapeutics,
- drug information/literature evaluation,
- and pharmacokinetics),
- pharmacy administration (i.e., pharmaceutical economics, health care delivery) and pharmacy law.
- During the third year students, select from a variety of elective courses and may take advantage of the opportunity to focus in an area of interest by completing an elective track in business, drug safety, nuclear pharmacy or clinical research. The fourth year is comprised of six 5-week clerkship rotations completed under the supervision of a faculty preceptor.
- In addition to the Doctor of Pharmacy program, graduate programs leading to Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the Pharmaceutical Sciences are available. The School also offers a unique and highly regarded Master of Science Program in Quality Assurance/Regulatory Affairs.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Required Application to Temple University School of Pharmacy can be made upon completion of the first preprofessional year and provisional acceptance may be granted at that time.
- A rolling admissions process is utilized, thus applications are accepted on a calendar year basis. Criteria for interview and admission to Temple's Pharm.D. program are established by the Admissions Committee.
- While a number of factors are considered for each applicant, the cumulative grade point average is given the most weight. Applicants must, therefore, achieve transferable grades in all prerequisites, and have a competitive grade point average for initial consideration as potential students.
- All candidates for admission must participate in an interview where verbal and written proficiency in English is evaluated. The interview is by invitation only. Temple University is an equal opportunity, nondiscriminatory institution.
