DESCRIPTION
The Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions prepares students in their professional disciplines with an emphasis on moral values and service.- The School's goal is to develop competent graduates who display concern for human health. Comprehensive professional instruction, engaging in basic science and clinical research, participating in community and professional service, and fostering a learning environment enhanced by faculty who encourage selfdetermination, self-respect, and compassion in students fulfills this mission.
- The School believes that the maximum contribution of its graduates to social betterment is dependent on a sound scientific knowledge base, well-developed clinical expertise, critical thinking capabilities, moral reasoning, and communication skills.
- The School strives to instill these qualities in its students. Creighton University is a private, Jesuit institution located in Omaha, Nebraska.
- The University is comprised of the professional schools (Pharmacy, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Law) and two colleges (Arts and Sciences and Business). University enrollment is approximately 8,500 students representing many geographical areas.
- The 78-acre enclosed campus is located near downtown Omaha. Students are encouraged to become active in the various academic, professional, social, and recreational activities.
- Students may choose from either residence halls or off campus housing. There are apartments within walking distance of campus and students who have transportation have a wide selection in housing. In the fall 2001, Creighton initiated an entry-level Web- Based Distance Doctor of Pharmacy degree pathway. The program is ACPE accredited with course loads that range from 12-16 hours per semester including 2 weeks of summer intensive laboratory experiences. The last year is similar to the campus-based program with eight five-week, full-time clerkships that are ideally arranged in the student's geographical area.
- In addition to its entry-level doctoral programs, Creighton University offers a Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy degree pathway for practitioners holding a BS degree in pharmacy. This pathway combines the desire to obtain a doctoral degree with flexibility of taking courses through distance learning mechanisms. The program consists of 33 semester hours of didactic courses and 24 semester hours of clerkships. Students are allowed to complete clinical rotations in their geographic location.
CURRICULUM
The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions is a recognized leader in innovative curricula designed to prepare students to face the challenges of pharmacy in the 21st century.
- The doctor of pharmacy degree requires a minimum of 63 semester hours of prerequisites and four years of professional study.
- Creighton's pharmacy program provides students a sound scientific knowledge base, well-developed clinical expertise, critical thinking abilities, moral reasoning, and communication skills.
- The School prides itself on a tradition for caring, valueoriented education of the whole person. Biomedical science courses, during the first two years, are taught through an interdisciplinary approach.
- Research projects also provide an opportunity to expand scientific knowledge. Creighton furnishes diverse opportunities for students interested in participating in research.
- All entering full time students are issued a personal notebook computer. The expense for the computer is incorporated. A variety of clinical experiences lead to well-developed clinical expertise. Clinical sites located across the nation include rural settings and a variety of specialty areas. The availability of experiences in different geographical areas and differing times throughout the four-year curriculum exposes students to a variety of approaches to clinical practice.
- Moral reasoning is enhanced through a required course in ethics and all courses stress communication skills.
- Students are encouraged to become involved in community and professional service.

- Pre-pharmacy courses may be completed at any accredited university/college.
- Students are encouraged to take 14/16 semester hours per semester.
- All questions concerning admission or prerequisite courses should be directed to the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Admission Office.
- All science prerequisite classes must be at a level such that the courses would be acceptable to advance towards a bachelor's degree in that discipline.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale) is required for consideration.
- The deadline for application materials and official transcripts is preferred by December 1 but no later than February 1.
