DESCRIPTION

Belmont University was founded as Belmont College in 1890. The 75 historic acres land the university now occupies was known as Belle Monte, the Victorian

home of one of Tennessee’s wealthiest couples. Belmont University is a private Christian University providing an academically challenging education that

empowers men and women of diverse backgrounds to engage and transform the world with disciplined intelligence, compassion, courage and faith. Belmont University is located in the heart of Music City Nashville, Tennessee. The College of Health Sciences offers a comprehensive education to students in a Christian environment, preparing them to become practitioners in health and social welfare fields. Departments include Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Social Work. Belmont University School of Pharmacy will begin enrolling students in the Fall of 2008. The pharmacy program will join Belmont’s nursing, social work, physical therapy and occupational therapy programs available in the Gordon E. Inman College of Health Sciences and Nursing.

CURRICULUM

As a student at Belmont you will be given the opportunity to learn from active pharmacy practitioners in the classroom as well as in health care institutions and pharmacy operations throughout your student career. From the first year on, you will be exposed to innovative practice sites in retail pharmacy, hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, corporations, pharmacy industry, and compounding centers. You will learn this exciting practice in a
“hands-on” fashion from practitioners who are motivated and willing to share their interests. During Year Two, all pharmacy students must declare an academic concentration in one of four areas: Pharmacotherapy, Informatics, Management, Missions. With faculty advisor assistance, students identify the area in which they wish to concentrate their study. Fulfilling the School of Pharmacy mission and vision requires a solid philosophical foundation upon which are placed clear, mission-relevant goals. Belmont University School of Pharmacy faculty and staff have established four fundamental service pillars and associated goals to guide all aspects of the Belmont University School of Pharmacy.
