Adult Suppository Dosage Form

• Suppositories specified for adults.

Aerosol Dosage Form

Aerosol Foam Dosage Form

Chewing Gum Dosage Form

• A sweetened and flavored insoluble plastic material of various shapes which when chewed, releases a drug substance into the oral cavity.

Cigarette Dosage Form

• A narrow tube filled with material that is capable to burn with release of therapeutically-active substance(s) during the process of smoking. Cigarette is a very efficient drug-delivery inhaler system for fast-acting substances.

Coated Capsule Dosage Form

Concentrate for Solution Dosage Form

Concentrate for Solution for Injection

Cone Dosage Form

• A dosage form designed to release medication over extended time periods to avoid high concentrations in the digestive tract or to provide longer duration of action than are available through conventional dosage forms. Controlled-Release Dosage Form

Crystal Dosage Form

• A naturally produced angular solid of definite form in which the ultimate units from which it is built up are systematically arranged; they are usually evenly spaced on a regular space lattice.

Delayed-Release Dosage Form

• Pharmaceutical formulation that involves the release of discrete amount(s) of drug some time after drug administration, e.g. enteric-coated products, and exhibit a lag time during which little or no absorption occurs.

Delayed Release Capsule

Dentifrice Gel Dosage Form

• A combination of a dentifrice (formulation intended to clean and/or polish the teeth, and which may contain certain additional agents), and a gel. It is used with a toothbrush for the purpose of cleaning and polishing the teeth.

Dentifrice Paste Dosage Form

• A paste formulation intended to clean and/or polish the teeth, and which may contain certain additional agents.

Dentifrice Powder Dosage Form

• A powder formulation intended to clean and/or polish the teeth, and which may contain certain additional agents.

Diaphragm Dosage Form

• A device usually dome-shaped, worn during copulation over the cervical mouth for prevention of conception or infection.

Diffusion-Controlled Extended-Release Dosage Form

• A dosage form with a water-insoluble polymer which controls the flow of water and the subsequent egress of dissolved drug. Both diffusional and dissolution processes are involved. In reservoir devices, a core of drug is coated with the polymer and, in matrix systems, the drug is dispensed throughout the matrix. Cellulose derivatives are commonly used in the reservoir types, while the matrix material may be plastics, e.g. methylacrylate-methyl methacrylate, polyvinyl chloride, hydrophilic polymers such as cellulose derivatives or fatty compounds including carnauba wax.

Disc Dosage Form

• The pharmaceutical dosage form of a flat, circular shape containing solid or powdered medicine, e.g. disk with powdered agent for inhalation, or transdermal disk.

Dissolution-Controlled Extended-Release Dosage Form

• A dosage form with the rate of dissolution of the drug (and thereby bioavailability) controlled by slowly soluble polymers or by microencapsulation. Once the coating is dissolved, the drug becomes available for dissolution. By varying the thicknesses of the coat and its composition, the rate of drug release can be controlled. Some preparations contain a fraction of the total dose as an immediate-release component to provide a pulse dose soon after administration. The pellet dosage forms of diffusion- or dissolution-controlled products can be encapsulated or prepared as a tablet.

Douche Dosage Form

• Powder for dermatological use only.

Effervescent Granule Dosage Form

• A small particle or grain containing a medicinal agent in a dry mixture usually composed of sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, and tartaric acid which, when in contact with water, has the capability to release gas, resulting in effervescence.

Effervescent Powder Dosage Form

• Powder intended to be dissolved or dispersed in water before administration. It generally contains, in addition to the active ingredient(s), mixtures of acids/acid salts (citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, or any other suitable acid or acid anhydride), which release carbon dioxide when mixed with water. Occasionally, the active ingredient itself could act as the acid or alkali metal compound necessary for effervescent reaction.

Effervescent Tablet Dosage Form

• A solid dosage form containing mixtures of acids (e.g., citric acid, tartaric acid) and sodium bicarbonate, which release carbon dioxide when dissolved in water; it is intended to be dissolved or dispersed in water before administration.

Electrically Controlled Extended Release Patch

Elixir Dosage Form

• A clear, pleasantly flavored, sweetened hydroalcoholic liquid containing dissolved medicinal agents; it is intended for oral use.

Emulsion Dosage Form

• A dosage form consisting of a two-phase system comprised of at least two immiscible liquids (1), one of which is dispersed as droplets (internal or dispersed phase) within the other liquid (external or continuous phase), generally stabilized with one or more emulsifying agents. Note 1: A liquid is pourable; it flows and conforms to its container at room temperature. It displays Newtonian or pseudoplastic flow behavior. Extended-Release Dosage Form

• Extended release dosage form is a modified pharmaceutical form of which the release of the active substance and its subsequent absorption are prolonged in comparison with a conventional non-modified form. The prolonged release of the active substance in man produces a spread of blood/plasma concentration as a function of time, with an increased apparent elimination half-life and/or reduction in peaks or achievement of a plateau. The staggering of concentrations is accompanied by a prolongation of therapeutic action without any increase, and possibly with and possibly with a reduction of probability of adverse events.

Extended Release Bead Implant Dosage Form

Extract Dosage Form
